Local economists believe tourism will bounce back in 2010. However, they did not have as much optimism for the states economy. The economists feel people are going to take a vacation, even with the job market down. They feel tourism was at its lowest this summer but around July Fourth they expect it to turn around. An economist from Coastal Carolina University, Don Schunk, feels the states job base will not increase enough for a job seeker to notice in 2010. He feels it will take a couple years for the unemployment rate to go down in South Carolina. On a good note, he also says, he expects personal income to rise by 3.3%. “We are on a recovery path that is bumpy” Schunk feels of the economy, he says it won’t get any worse.
